Glenn mailed me this...I hope you don't mind Glenn, but in the spirit of email privacy and so forth, I've cut and pasted it on the internet so everyone can see (well, it worked wonders for Claire Swales, didn't it!)
"For those of you who might not have been following the EU's 'Communications
Data Protection Directive' [sic] passage to legislation, here's the very bad
conclusion:
All EU ISPs will be obliged to keep all records of everybody's internet use,
and all traffic that passes through them, indefinately. All EU governements
will have unquestioned access to records of everything everyone does (and
has done) via phone, fax and internet, whether they are suspected of doing
anything bad or not.
Remember when total and indiscriminate surveillance was a dream of science
fiction dystopias and fascist regimes? Turns out it was your caring liberal
government that would make it real.
www.statewatch.org is also worth a look now and then (but a bit dry). It has
a petition to sign (shoulder shrugging allround)."
